i was writing something yesterday when something popped into my thoughts.
before the advent of email, people wrote letters, cards, notes and what-nots to each other. then, the electronic craze caught up. who still receives and writes letters at all anymore?? after email, then came social networking, like Friendster, Facebook, Twitter, etc.. you don't email, now, you just post something on your friend's wall and voila! it will be there.
it was thought that these binary code formation will outlast the written word, enabling the preservation of memories for a longer time. plus, you can make multiple copies so you don't have to worry about losing the original.
heck, you probably won't know which one is the original after copying and storing so many clones of it..
on the other hand, no one write emails anymore. my inbox, it is full of alerts from FB. and sometimes, i get stuff that are forwarded like gazillion of times.. seldom are there any emails that actually contain stuff that matters. maybe this is my problem, i do not email or communicate electronically. not that much.
but you know, i still think that letters are different from emails and FB posts. sure, they take longer to arrive. you actually need to SIT DOWN and WRITE them. that is what is different? i always find a person's handwriting fascinating. like when i get a letter, i feel like someone just handed me a present.. =)
i remember that i used to exchange letters. even though the person sat next to me in class everyday, talked to me a lot, we wrote each other letters.
i seldom get letters too, but when i do, it feels like i can hear the writer's 'voice' when i read their script. the familiarity of handwriting is something that electronic mail cannot replace. at least for now.. lolx..

i wonder what will the older me be like end of this year?
