†stalking your future mother-in-law †

the Double life of Anna Day-Louise Candlish

the title seems totally unconventional.. who would live a double life apart from secret agents and spies.. sounds ugly.. haha.. this book falls into the chick lit category.. Anna Day seemed to have it all.. she has a high flying career at the moment(all she needs is just another promotion~ lol~) and such a perfect boyfriend in Charlie.. Charlie seems to fit into the bill of every girl's dreams.. all except for the presence of his mother, who he claims to be a tyrannical control freak.. Anna is all but ready to meet her future mother-in-law but Charlie does not seems so.. With the an important social event in the family calendar, Anna decides to take things into her own hands and prepares to get to know her future mother-in-law before Charlie introduces them.. but are things really the way they seem to be?? as Anna goes all out of her way to impress her future mother-in-law she makes discoveries that will introduce more doubts into her life.. she changes her image and habits.. on the beautiful trip to Andalasia while trailing them, Anna wonders if she is doing the right thing after all.. suddenly, Charlie does not seem to be so perfect after all.. and his mother?? was Charlie blowing things out of proportion with his complaints of her? Anna returns from her trip to me faced with more problems at work too.. the post that she appiled for is open again.. will she get it this time?

okay, considering that this is chick lit, you would expect it to end 'happily ever after' right?? so not at all.. it took me an afternoon to finish this (not that hard either.. no heavy reading involved..) but the ending surprised me totally.. i'm no stranger to chick fiction where you read about people who are so perfect but are living crappy lives.. then, a prince (usually) steps in somewhere and saves the day.. it ends happily ever after.. end of story.. hahaha.. but not here.. Ms.Day loses her job.. she breaks up with Charlie after seeing him at his mother's birthday gala with another girl.. she learns that his mum's invitation to her for the gala is merely to create another distraction for Charlie.. all this while her friend Caroline ends up with a perfect other half.. what happened to the 'happily ever after' ending?????? *evil laugh* i like this book after i finished it.. when i discover the surprising ending.. sure, its not that nice.. its left me reeling, i hated Charlie for being a weak useless guy but i liked the interesting ending.. the descriptions of the pretty scenery in Andalasia is well described and i like the way Anna's helplessness is portrayed.. okay, this is not a very enlightening read, but a good enough distraction for boring days.. that is if you do get past the first 50 pages.. yeah, it takes that long for it to even light any sparks.. good luck working on it.. believe me, the ending is worth the wait.. finally, a book where you don't have a cheesy reunion at the end.. i am so loving this.. *ngehehehehe*

p.s. hmm, what i learnt from here, don't bother putting yourself through all that unnecessary pain for some useless guy.. kakakaka..
